Significant Dates
Inauspicious days occur regularly each month based largely on the specific phase of the Moon, called Tithi. This month, days to avoid for auspicious activities and take care with are:
May 30th: Ekadashi, which begins early in the morning PST
Ekadashi is a firery day which has the energy of Mars. Under it’s influence, people are prone to fighting, arguments and irritation. It is a good day for hard work but not great for harmony. Try to avoid conflict and stay focused on the tasks at hand.
June 13th: another Ekadashi (there are two each month, on the waxing and waning phase of the Moon), beginning in the evening of the 12th and ending around 8pm PST on the 13th
If you have issues with conflict in your life, or known problems with the planet Mars, Ekadashi is a great day to fast or at least abstain from something significant such as caffeine, alcohol or meat. This helps to pacify the anger of Mars. It is said that no one will ever fight with someone who fasts religiously on Ekadashi
June 16th: Sankranti
Sun moves from Taurus into Aries. The one day each month when the Sun moves signs is considered a day when it is difficult to accomplish things. It is not recommended to begin any new projects here or attempt any important tasks. Sometimes even leisurely endeavors can get sidetracked, so stick with low-stakes activities if possible.
June 17: Amavasya, empty Moon, beginning around 8pm PST on the 16th and lasting until about 9pm on the 17th
Amavasya can be a difficult day, characterized by the energy of the planet Rahu who is considered chaotic, destructive, and confusing. All auspicious activities and beginnings are to be avoided on this day. It is a good day to weed the garden, clean the house, fast, do some difficult internal work. It is good for removing and destroying things; this day does not have the energy of sustenance because the sustainer (The Moon) is absent from the sky.
Other dates to be aware of:
June 03: Full Moon, beginning very early in the morning on the 2nd and peaking at about 8:30 pm PST on the 3rd
Full Moon’s are great days to be in the company of other people, since Moon governs community. There is more extroversion and energy available (opposite of the empty moon, which is an introverted, low-energy time), so take advantage of this to satisfy your need for connection.
June 2-4: Moon’s debilitation in Scorpio
Because the Moon shows mind and emotions, days when it is debilitated tend to be a little bit harder psychologically. You might notice that your energy levels and motivation are lower, and it is easy to feel ‘stuck’ on these days and get into some difficult places internally. It is nice to schedule these days to be a little less taxing and extroverted if possible, since you may not feel like you’re at the top of your game.
